Millennium TV recently joined the Africa-Gives Autumn Film Fundraiser at the Cinema Museum in London. Special guest John Carlin also held a Q&A following a screening of the movie “Invictus” starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon and directed by Clint Eastwood!

Nelson Mandela and Springboks captain, François Pienaar, are the focus of Carlin’s 2008 book, Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Made a Nation, that highlights the role of the 1995 Rugby World Cup win in post-apartheid South Africa. The film, entitled Invictus, was directed by Clint Eastwood, and featured Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar.

We were lucky enough to catch up with John Carlin to hear how he came to write the book; his time in South Africa; the good work of the Africa-Gives Initiative; his views on what made Nelson Mandela such an exceptional leader; and his hopes for Africa.
